Introduction
AoA launched You Can! Steps to Healthier Aging in September 2004 as a social marketing campaign using the best marketing practices including message testing, behavior change theory, and listening to the views of the target audience and Aging Network. You Can! two-year campaign has provided a foundation for future health promotion and disease prevention programs for older adults and has promoted evidence-based prevention programs through Web-based seminars. AoA outreach efforts resulted in reaching our partnership goal in the campaign’s first year. By September 30, 2006 when the campaign ended, a total of more than 2,800 organizations had made a commitment to reach 4.2 million older adults with information and 436,000 with programs. The You Can! toolkit and materials will continue to be available on AoA’s You Can! Web site (see Tools and Information).
