International Day of Older Persons

International Day of Older Persons 2007

On October 1 st , the Administration on Aging will join the world community in celebrating the 17th Annual Celebration of the International Day of Older Persons. By designating this special day, elders are given recognition for their contributions and attention is drawn to the issues of global aging. States and local communities are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to celebrate this day.

The United Nations (UN) will celebrate with the theme “Addressing the Challenges and Opportunities of Ageing: Empowering Older Persons”. On October 4 th , the NGO Committee on Ageing, together with the UN Department of Public Information and the Department for Economic and Social Affairs, will host an all day conference providing global, regional and local perspectives on the implementation of the 2002 Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing.
