SUBJECT : 1999 SEARCH FOR AMERICA’S
OLDEST WORKER

Green Thumb, Inc.has launched the 1999 Search for
America’s Oldest Worker. Again, this year, the U.S.
Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (DoL/ETA)
and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration
on Aging (DHHS/AoA) are joining with Green Thumb,
Inc. to promote this event. The winner of the 1999 title and the
outstanding worker from each State will be announced in March
1999 at the Green Thumb Prime Time Awards Gala in Washington,
D.C. to be held during the National Employ The Older
Worker Week, March 14 - 20. Green Thumb is a national
sponsor of the Title V Senior Community Service Employment Program
(SCSEP), which is authorized by the Older Americans
Act of 1965, and is administered by the Secretary of Labor.
This is the second nationwide search for the oldest worker in
America. The first search was launched in 1998. The 1998 winner,
Milton Garland, is a refrigeration engineer, who at 103 years
of age, is still working for the Frick Company, a Division of
York Refrigeration Corporation.
The only criterion for entry to the contest is that individuals
must be employed a minimum of 20 hours per week. The oldest worker
will receive the award. Workers who wish to enter should provide
the following information: name, date of birth (month, day,
and year), home telephone number, name and address of employer,
position or title, business telephone number, name of supervisor
and the number of hours worked each week. Send a post
card or note by mail to: Oldest Worker,
Green Thumb, Inc., 2000 - 14th Street, Suite 800, Arlington,
Virginia 2220l, or enter the information directly on the "Oldest
Worker" page of Green Thumb’s website at: http//www.greenthumb.org . The deadline
for entries is December 30, 1998. Workers may enter themselves
or be nominated by employers, family or friends.
