AoA-IM-98-06

TO : STATE AND AREA AGENCIES AND TRIBES ADMINISTERING PLANS UNDER TITLES III AND VI OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT OF 1965, AS AMENDED

SUBJECT : Older Americans Act Nutrition Program: Silver Anniversary Awards

REFERENCES: TITLES III AND VI OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT

We are pleased to share narrative information describing the accomplishments of nutrition providers submitted by State Agencies on Aging and Administration on Aging (AoA) Regional Offices for recognition during the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Older Americans Act nutrition program. The AoA is highlighting nutrition programs across the country emphasizing how they have responded to the increased demand and needs of older persons.

State Agencies on Aging utilized many creative approaches to select a program within their state to recognize. Regional Offices of the AoA prepared narratives about outstanding Native American providers. Both Titles III and VI program narratives are included in the attached Silver Anniversary Awards summary booklet for your information.

During this celebratory year, we have a need to look back and appreciate the efforts of those programs that served to shape and mold a strong consumer-focused nutrition program that is essential for older persons. We look forward to another 25 years of challenges as the number of older people continues to grow and we continue to adapt successfully to meet their needs.

We congratulate each program submitted for recognition.

William F. Benson
Acting Principal Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Aging
