U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging, Josefina G. Carbonell, to Speak at the Senior Health Advocates of the Healing Zone project in Richmond, Virginia

WASHINGTON, DC–Josefina G. Carbonell, Assistant Secretary for Aging, will be a keynote speaker at the Senior Health Advocates of the Healing Zone project in Richmond, Virginia on September 1, 2005 in honor of Health and Aging Month.
The Healing Zone is an Administration on Aging faith-based community health leadership program in six sites across the country. The goal is to reduce obesity as a leading risk factor for chronic disease among African American seniors.
The Healing Zone projects will disseminate health promotion information that promotes weight reduction, improved nutrition and increased physical activity.
The Assistant Secretary will address the accomplishments to date by the Healing Zone and will discuss how Medicare beneficiaries can access new benefits under the Medicare Modernization and Improvement Act of 2003 (MMA).
She will also remind attendees that September 20 is Take a Loved One for A Checkup Day and will encourage them to help a family member or friend to take charge of their health.
