October 15, 2004 U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging Speaking at the El Paso, Texas Aging to Perfection Expo Josefina G. Carbonell, Assistant Secretary, Administration on Aging (AoA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will speak at the sixth annual Aging to Perfection Expo in El Paso, Texas on October 15. She will also lead off a mini-walk of the Expo and meet with local dignitaries. The two-day Expo, an intergenerational event, is a highlight of the U.S./Mexico Binational Border Health Week. It will feature health awareness exhibits for all age groups. Eight thousand people are expected to attend and receive health information from nearly 100 exhibitors. ### The AoA is a Federal agency dedicated to policy development, planning and the delivery of supportive home and community-based services to older persons and their caregivers through the national aging network of state and local agencies on aging, tribal organizations, service providers and volunteers. U.S. Assistant Secretary for Aging visits El Paso, Texas Josefina G. Carbonell, Assistant Secretary for Aging, visited El Paso, Texas to participate in a number of closing events organized in honor of the first border wide U.S./Mexico Border Health Week. This year marks the first U.S./Mexico Border Health Week, in which nearly 200 health-promotion activities took place in 14 U.S./Mexico sister cities along the border. The event, held the week of October 11th, is a collaboration among the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Mexican Ministry of Health, the U.S./Mexico Border Health Commission, the Pan American Health Organization and local and state organizations and communities. The Assistant Secretary on Aging spoke at the El Paso, TexasAging to Perfection Health Expo, a major event of the week featuring health awareness exhibits for all ages. The expo was hosted by the Rio Grande Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging. In addition to providing remarks, she led off a mini-walk of the Expo and met with local officials. She also toured the Bienvivir Senior Health Services and the Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe.
