The U.S. Administration on Aging’s National Summit Addresses Issues Affecting Older Americans and Aging Baby Boomers

The U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is holding its National Summit on Creating Healthy & Caring Communities September 21 through September 23. More than 1,000 persons, including foreign dignitaries, professionals and advocates at the state and local levels are attending, representing aging, health, and long-term care providers and practitioners; consumer organizations; educators; policymakers; and representatives from organizations at all levels.

At the Summit, they will learn about innovative practices and prepare for the future wave of aging Baby Boomers. Practical information and tools based on the best available science and most promising practices will be provided.
The three-day Summit is designed to help members of the aging network and other professionals:

  • Promote policy and program changes at the state, tribal and local level that will make the long-term care system more balanced and more responsive to the needs and preferences of older people and their family caregivers.

  • Develop and operate innovative programs that will help people remain healthy and active as they age, and help older people with chronic conditions remain living in their own homes and communities.

  • Implement strategies to better position organizations in the changing health and long term care environment.

Josefina G. Carbonell, Assistant Secretary for Aging (ASA) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will be available for a media opportunity:

When: Monday, September 22, 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
