Josefina Carbonell to Address STARS Faith-Based Initiative Volunteer Awards Luncheon

Josefina G. Carbonell, Assistant Secretary for Aging (ASA) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will address a volunteer awards luncheon hosted by STARS (Support Through Alzheimer’s Relief System), a faith-based initiative, on Wednesday, April 30, in Tallahassee.

Eighty-one volunteers will be recognized during the luncheon for their hard work and dedication in providing outreach services to underserved populations, including ethnic minorities and low-income, rural families coping with Alzheimer’s disease. STARS is an Alzheimer’s disease demonstration project funded by the Administration on Aging (AoA) and is implemented by the Florida Department of Elder Affairs in Leon, Jefferson, Madison and Gadsden counties.

Jim Towey, Director of the President’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, will also speak at the volunteer awards luncheon.
