Special Seminar on Aging in Place at NCLC Annual Conference

Over the years, thousands of legal aid, nonprofit, government, private attorneys, and advocates have attended NCLC's consumer rights conferences and gained insightful, useful information from experts in the field of consumer law. This year's conference will feature a special, day-long seminar on helping older Americans age in place: Staying Home: Overcoming Barriers to Aging in Place This seminar will focus on financial and other obstacles older Americans must overcome if they intend to successfully age in place, including avoiding foreclosure, and dealing with aggressive and income-draining debt collection efforts. In addition, this seminar will include an overview of programs providing direct services to older individuals in their homes, including Medicaid, Older Americans Act, and Social Services Block Grant programs. Featured speakers include Gene Coffey of National Senior Citizens Law Center, Michelle Weinberg of Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, Margot Saunders of National Consumer Law Center, Jean Constantine-Davis of AARP, David Mandel of California Senior Legal Hotline/Sacramento Senior Legal Services, and David Godfrey of ABA Commission on Law and Aging. This year's conference is in Philadelphia on October 22-25, 2009. The special seminar is only $100 for legal services and nonprofit elder advocate registrants.
