Visit to Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee accompanied HHS Secretary Sebelius to the Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center in Washington, D.C. Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center receives funding for nutrition and health programs from the Older Americans Act through the DC Office on Aging as well as from other sources. It provides a variety of important health and community-based services for seniors and plays a key role in helping DC seniors remain independent.

Secretary Sebelius and Assistant Secretary Greenlee mingled with seniors and spoke to them about the health insurance reform efforts that are currently underway in Congress. Assistant Secretary Greenlee met with Dr. Clarence Brown, Executive Director of the DC Office on Aging, staff of the Honorable Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC's Delegate in Congress and others to talk about the importance of health and wellness programs for seniors.
