June 1997
Dear Colleague:
Best wishes for a successful Fourth national Title VI Training and Technical Assistance Conference. The theme "Native American Elders programs: Rising to the challenges" is most appropriate. The update of the "Compendium of Grant Resources for Native American Elders Programs" is an excellent resource, and we welcome the opportunity to provide support.
I am pleased to note that proceeding your Conference, the Administration on Aging will conduct an Aging Network Forum on June 2 in Kansas City. That Forum will provide participants an opportunity to express their views concerning the role of the aging network in home and community based care and required services under Title VI. The Forum will provide individuals an opportunity to share views on how the Older Americans Act can be strengthened to enhance the quality of life of older Native Americans. It is extremely important that seniors be informed of legislative and program changes that have tremendous impact on our lives. I am impressed with the quality training and technical assistance that has been provided through collaborative efforts.
We at the National committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare share your concerns, and our mission is to protect, promote and preserve the financial security, health and well-being of our senior population. Our objective is to provide resources and support of initiatives that enhance the quality of life of seniors. We welcome future opportunities to work with you. Mildred S. Wood, Director of our Minority Affairs Department, and our entire staff join me in extending best wishes for a successful Conference.
Sincerely,
Martha A. McSteen
President
