Dear Colleagues:
Its a pleasure to present you with the second edition of the "Compendium of Grant Resource s for Native American Elders Programs" which was developed in partnership with my office, the Administration on Aging Region VIII, the Community Resource Center and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare.
Our office has had many positive reactions to this resource document which inspired us to develop a second edition. I encourage you to explore the many resources contained in this document to find opportunities to augment the title VI resources for your Tribal Elders Programs. Perhaps you can identify potential resources to develop a new program or expand existing services.
I would like to express my appreciation to the title VI Directors, Tribal Councils, Tribal Elders and especially to Dr. Yvonne Jackson for their exemplary leadership and advocacy on behalf of Native American elders. They make a positive difference every day in the lives of Native American elders through the Older Americans Act network of services and I appreciate their dedication of time, talent and attention.
I hope you enjoy this second edition and that it will continue to cultivate opportunities for additional resources as well as new partnerships on reservations. Preserving the dignity and independence of Indian elders is an integral part of preserving Native tradition and culture. In addition to listing funding opportunities, this Compendium includes resource agencies who can provide help and assistance in grant development. Again, we have included some of the amazing resources on the internet.
I wish you continued success in your programs and hope that this Compendium will generate financial and in-kind resources to help us meet the needs of an aging society, now as well as into the 21st century.
Sincerely,
Percy Devine III
Regional Administrator
Administration on Aging
